ELECTRON-PHONON INTERACTION FOR SUPERCONDUCTIVITY IN ALKALI-METAL-DOPED FULLERENES

AbstractThe effective attraction between C-60(2-) ions and ''nearly free'' electrons is produced by the crystal field, the low-energy unoccupied pied orbital of C-60(2-) and a potential barrier due to the large angular momentum of the t1u. orbital. That the K+ optical mode and the vibration of the C60 mass center couple with this effective attraction induces a strong electron-phonon interaction. We show that this plays a principal role in A3C60 superconductivity. We also calculate the various properties of the superconducting state, especially the transition temperature T(c), and show that the results are consistent with experimental data.
