AbstractThe problem of an electron moving in a finite crystal under the action of a uniform electric field is solved analytically. The general and correct form of the Schrodinger equation in the electric-field-dependent Bloch representation is presented without using the derivative with respect to the Bloch wave vector. A formula for calculating the interband matrix elements of the non-periodic steplike electric potential is also obtained. It is shown rigorously that these interband matrix elements cannot be zero in a general setting. This is contrary to a recently published claim.
