AbstractA technique of nonlinear deterministic prediction is applied to test the short-term predictability of b-values for seismic events recorded in Tangshan region in China. The prediction results are satisfactory and significantly better than that of conventional AR models. This implies that the underlying mechanism, as expressed by the b-value data sequence, is deterministic. And it could be helpful for earthquake predictions.
