Abstract | We consider a quasi-two-dimensional electron gas confined by a harmonic potential within its layer and in a strong and tilted magnetic field. The energies of a Laughlin-type liquid state and of a variational electron solid state are calculated to examine the effect of the tilted field to the solid-liquid phase transition. The critical filling factor is found to increase with increasing tilting angle. |
